California-based technical death metal badassery. They’re classified as metalcore, however I think it’s more along the lines of technical death metal (no questions) and melodic death metal. Go check out their Facebook page and listen to them. I think they’re quite amazing and definitely need more recognition.
No seriously, go like them.

Scene kids, posers, and emos - The thoughts from a “real” metalhead

This is a pretty good video. It’s about how all types of metalheads are judged, especially the scene/emo crowd. Why deathcore fans are so judged instead of people who listen to thrash or straight death metal? Lots of interesting things said in this, and many of them I have thought of myself.

Killswitch Engage loses frontman Howard Jones but continues as a band
To our family, friends and fans: We have decided to continue on without Howard Jones as the singer of Killswitch Engage. We love Howard and are thankful for the nine years that we’ve had him in the band. Out of respect for everyone involved we will not be discussing the specific reasons behind this decision. Howard is a part of our family and always will be, and we wish him well. He has left big shoes to fill, so we certainly have our work cut out for us to find the next singer of Killswitch, something we plan on making priority #1 going forward. Most importantly, thanks to all of you for all the support throughout the years and for sticking by us for all this time. We really do appreciate it and we very much look forward to having a new record for all of you in the not too distant future that we can all be proud of. Sincerely, Adam, Joel, Mike & Justin.

Ruled By Reason - Ruled By the Bells (Carol of the Bells cover)

I went to the Ruled By Reason Christmas show last Thursday and they opened with this magnificent piece of music. I really wish it was longer because it’s absolutely fucking badass.

Happy holidays.

August Burns Red - Empire (Music Video)

mmmm listen to that tone… Mesa’s are so sick. I wonder if they actually hook them up during the video shoots. Cuz I mean.. how can you get pumped to nothing?

The Soulless - Isolated (2011)
Amazon MP3 link
For those of you who don’t know, The Soulless was originally named Ignominious Incarceration. My brother and I would joke about this band called “ignorant iguana” and they were pretty dope. The band is still dope, and has now released a second full-length album as The Soulless. It’s good melodic death metal, that’s for sure. It’s sort of venturing into metalcore but that doesn’t make the band any less awesome.

Born of Osiris headlining November/December 2011 Tour with Veil of Maya, Carnifex, Structures, and Betraying the Martyrs
This is an excellent reason to soil yourself.
Obviously Born of Osiris is fucking dope, that’s a given. Veil of Maya is… ok, because they kind of have their ups and downs (probably more downs than ups) with songs. Carnifex is fucking brutal and they will easily be slaying peoples faces. Structures isn’t bad, but I think they’re a bit too faggy sceneish if you ask me. They seem like wannabe “hardcore br00tal” people, but their music is just djent proggy shit.
Last, and certainly not least, is Betraying the Martyrs. They are extremely fucking talented and have a great sound. Click the link to read a few posts I made about them.
The tour dates aren’t completely setup yet, but here is what’s available so far:
11/18 - Dayton, OH @ The Attic 11/20 - Cleveland, OH @ Peabodys 11/23 - Indianapolis, IN @ Emerson Theatre 11/25 - Joliet, IL @ Mojoes 11/26 - Detroit, MI @ Harpos 11/27 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Altar Bar 11/28 - Philadelphia, PA @ First Unitarian Church 11/29 - Syracuse, NY @ Lost Horizon Stay tuned for more dates TBA on Oct 6th

Within The Ruins - Carry On My Wayward Son (Kansas cover)

I wish the quality was a little better, but this is incredible.

Here Comes The Kraken - Hate, Greed & Death (2011)
Check out their website to listen to music
Honestly, they are really awesome. They’re a 7man band from Mexico City, Mexico.  It’s like djent, metalcore, and deathcore combined. The clean vocals by them are done VERY well. The guitars are heavy and catchy, the growls are tasty, and I feel as if this band would appeal to a lot of people. It’s not straight up death metal by any means, but I listened to this album today and liked it a lot.
DEFINITELY check out their website and give them a listen. I bet girls cream over this band.

August Burns Red - Internal Cannon

Surprise scumbags! You guys thought I would never post this. Too bad, because I am.
This is a song from their upcoming album called Leveler and it’s quite a bit of audible awesomeness. Remember The Exodus of Autonomy by Wretched? Yeah you do, because that song was badass. Well this is right along those lines of badassery. Nothing like being in the middle of a good song then taking a trip down hispanic acoustic guitar lane. Yes, that’s an actual road.

Unearth - Eyes of Black

New song from their upcoming album Darkness in the Light. The album comes out July 5th in America, and you can preorder it on iTunes. For being an American band signed to an American label (Metal Blade), it’s being released in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Norway on July 1st. The UK and the rest of Europe get it on July 4th, Spain, Italy, and North America get it July 5th, Finland and Hungary get it on July 6, and Japan gets it July 27. These release dates make no goddamn sense.

Unearthed also released another song recently called Ruination of the Lost, which I will post tomorrow! Or you can listen to it in their facebook.

ALSO, they are on the Mayhemfest tour this year.  Despite the lineup for that tour being alright, the headliners like Disturbed and Godsmack make me fucking facepalm.  I will definitely not be going to this, but it’s ok because when Unearth is in Cleveland they’ll be playing with All Shall Perish.

Forty Winters - Reflection (2011)
Buy their CD and merch on Big Cartel
Forty Winters is a pretty new band based out of Coral Springs, Florida and I’d say they’re pretty good. It’s metalcore with hardcore, but not deathcore. Kind of like groove hardcore, I guess. Either way I like it. I would highly recommend you go to their Facebook page and take a listen. Out of the songs on their facebook page I like Cam-Pain the most, fyi.  I’m also just glad I don’t hear stupid annoying dissonant chords!

New Australian band influenced by The Black Dahlia Murder/The Red Shore/etc. A bit more metalcore-ish to what you usually post here but seems to appeal more to metalheads than core kids.

Anyway, check it out and see what you think.

Well, overall it’s not bad.  The music itself seems good.  Personally I’d say that there just needs to be a better guitar tone in there, and could be mixed/engineered differently.  Vocals were lacking that x-factor that blows you away. Maybe I just need to play it louder, hahaha.
But yeah folks, check this shit out and see what you think!

Chimaira’s new album to be titled The Age of Hell
When I got to see Chimaira on Saturday they had the first official announcement with the title of their new album, which comes out August 16, and then they played a song off of the album called Trigger Finger.
If you want to see the footage of the announcement on Saturday the 28th (which I was at!) then you can check this video Since the quality of that one is kind of crappy, here’s a better quality video when they played at Livewire in Mentor.
