Fucking awesome. This is basically black viking metal. Or some sort of melodic blackened viking metal with symphonic stuff added. Whatever the hell it is, I like it. I like it a lot. I’ve been hunting and listening to black metal a lot this evening and this is quite pleasant.
Go check out their Facebook page while you’re at it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Slechtvalk-Official/125368040893575 or if you want to listen to them (which you should) then check them out on Myspace
Ah yes, more Mnemic! Glad they’re making some new stuff because they’re fucking awesome melodic death metal. Based on the samples it sounds a bit more industrial and djent but it still sounds sweet. Comes out June 19th, although it has supposedly been leaked onto the internets.
Back in January Allegaeon set out to begin recording their new album titled Formshifter and today they released a track from that album. It sounds pretty awesome, just like you would expect from Allegaeon. Formshifter will be released on May 8th.
I have this DVD but I’m watching it on youtube anyways. I’m sure many of you have not seen an Amon Amarth DVD so here’s your chance to improve your life.

California-based technical death metal badassery. They’re classified as metalcore, however I think it’s more along the lines of technical death metal (no questions) and melodic death metal. Go check out their Facebook page and listen to them. I think they’re quite amazing and definitely need more recognition.
No seriously, go like them.
Man this band is fucking cool! Listen to this shit. It’s melodic death metal that makes you feel like you’re riding a dragon.
I present to you part of a song that I wrote today. I had a lead/rhythm idea then went to putting it in tabs and did a quick recording of left and right guitars. Has a few rough patches, but obviously this isn’t anything near a final product. Hell I had my headset still on my head and my amp was like over there —>
Feedback welcome :) What do you think?
As usual, I’m on an Amon Amarth kick. Right now I’ve been watching this DVD set all day, literally. I got out of bed, waked and baked, ate something, then turned this shit on. It’s a little over 7 hours of stuff and it’s got such a huge variety of songs. There’s multiple HUGE concerts that were recorded and it’s awesome watching their hour long setlist for each different location. I got a bit more to watch though…
Promo pic for their upcoming album Helvetios. Gets released February 10th in Europe and February 28 for North America.
Johan and Olavi give some details about their axes, picking, type of music they play, and they do it while seeming insanely awkward. It’s kind of funny to watch, but still very useful and informative. All I want to say though is at least watch up through Olavi talking about why downpicking is more brutal. His demonstrations are just great.
On a side note, definitely learning War of the Gods on guitar now.
Alright, I am getting pretty confused here. As you should all know, At The Gates originally did this song. This bluegrass band from Stockholm does covers of melodic death metal songs and they are quite well done. It goes to show how brilliant death metal truly is because it sounds fucking great when performed as other genres. Take a listen to this and their cover of Twilight of the Thunder God. Once you start listening you like it in a strange way…
For those of you who don’t know, The Soulless was originally named Ignominious Incarceration. My brother and I would joke about this band called “ignorant iguana” and they were pretty dope. The band is still dope, and has now released a second full-length album as The Soulless. It’s good melodic death metal, that’s for sure. It’s sort of venturing into metalcore but that doesn’t make the band any less awesome.
Threat Signal is a cool band, and it’s always fun watching the guitarists play their own stuff. Shit gets crazy after 2:41. I really got work on getting that kind of speed…
You should feel like you’ve been raped after listening to all 10 songs.
As you all know, Threat Signal is fucking sweet. Sounds like this album is going to be incredible. Check out that run at 2:03… that’s just absolutely motherfucking awesome. They state there are influences by the guitarist of Scar Symmetry, which you can definitely hear from this video. Also included are Paul Gilbert and Marty Friedman, so yeah that’s pretty badass.
