Ted Lundström of Amon Amarth

Yeah, that’s how a viking does it… brews his own beer at home, grills stuff, and hops in the hot tub when it’s cold as fuck outside.  According to him it is currently 41C in the tub, -16C in the air.  That’s 105°F in the tub, and 6.8°F in the air. lol

As usual, I’m on an Amon Amarth kick. Right now I’ve been watching this DVD set all day, literally. I got out of bed, waked and baked, ate something, then turned this shit on. It’s a little over 7 hours of stuff and it’s got such a huge variety of songs. There’s multiple HUGE concerts that were recorded and it’s awesome watching their hour long setlist for each different location. I got a bit more to watch though…

Some more Amon Amarth demos and even a fucking demo from Scum, which is what Amon Amarth was before they were called Amon Amarth. Real late 80’s shit.

Johan and Olavi give some details about their axes, picking, type of music they play, and they do it while seeming insanely awkward. It’s kind of funny to watch, but still very useful and informative. All I want to say though is at least watch up through Olavi talking about why downpicking is more brutal. His demonstrations are just great.

On a side note, definitely learning War of the Gods on guitar now.

Amon Amarth has so many incredible songs that sound great as any instrument.  Good thing an 88 key piano goes down to A and Amon Amarth’s songs have a rhythm of B because then it can still sound low and badass.

Amon Amarth going on tour… again!

Damn, they already did a US tour with no openers and now they are cruising through Canada and a few various places in America as well. Also looks like a big European tour as well. Too bad they didn’t come through my neck of the woods again, cuz I wouldn’t mind.

Amon Amarth returns to North America for a second tour in 2011

Honestly I would go see them again if they came back here, but they’re not. I could consider going to the show in Detroit, though.  Check the link for all the tour dates!

Yes, it is true! We are coming back to tour North America. The spring tour turned out to be so successful, and we had such a great time playing the double sets each night, that we decided to bring ”An evening with Amon Amarth” to the rest of the continent, including Canada! We will perform the new album in its entirety, and after that we’re doing a revised second set with all the classics as well as some ”wild-cards”.

Olavi Mikkonen’s amp setup

What we have here is 2 very similar amp heads. The head on top is supposedly a 5150, however based on what I could see and going by the pictures I took it’s just a 6505. The amp head on the bottom is the 6505+, and the white line is tape that has all of the amp settings written on it. Since I am the owner of a 5150, I took the liberty of writing down all his amp settings that I could see. He also used a pedal board, but as far as I know it was only used for certain parts of various songs, and nothing was ever kept on, thus meaning the tone is purely the 6505+.

The settings are as follows:

• Pre: 4.5
• Low: 6.1
• Mid: 5.1
• High: 5
• Vol 2
• Rhythm Resonance: 10
• Rhythm Presence: 0
• Lead Resonance: 7.5
• Lead Presence: 6.9

So what we have here is the settings used on the lead channel. I couldn’t get down the settings for the rhythm channel aside from the resonance and presence. I dialed my amp into this setup and yeah, that’s definitely what they were using.

Frederik Andersson’s drumset

Well, it’s a monster. It’s been an enormous drumset for years and years, and he’s a master of it. Everybody is always amazed at the size of that goddamn thing! (that’s what she said)

This was just after the show when they were shaking hands with everybody. I tried getting a pic of myself shaking Johan’s hand but it didn’t work out too well. I was glad to shake his hand again after doing a fistbump back in 2007.
