Nile - At The Gate of Sethu (2012)
The reigning king of technical, historically-themed brutality, Nile, has announced a July 3rd release date for its upcoming studio album, At The Gate Of Sethu. The follow-up to Nile’s latest state-of-the-death-metal-art release, Those Whom the Gods Detest (2009), will once again be released via Nuclear Blast Records. Neil Kernon (Cannibal Corpse, Macabre) handled production duties for Nile’s seventh full-length.
Time for another brick-shittingly good time with Nile. I’m sure it’ll be better than Ithyphallic, but I wonder if it’ll be able to top Those Whom The Gods Detest. Comes out June 26 in Europe and July 3 in the US.

Dimmu Borgir - The Insight And The Catharsis

I cannot emphasize enough how absolutely amazing Vortex’s voice is. This is definitely one of my favorite Dimmu Borgir songs and I’m pretty sure every time I get to that last bit at the end every hair on my body stands on end. Goosebumps of awesomeness. Take time out of your day to remember Vortex’s voice and get a dose of black metal.

This lineup… it’s just… like wtf.  Someone had to die at that concert.

What a lovely pair of underwear

What a lovely pair of underwear

Did you realize (in your blog about Max being announced as the permanent bassist of TBDM) that when you put JFAC as an example of a band constantly changing line ups, Alan from JFAC and Max were both in Goratory and Burn In Silence together?
Anonymous

Actually I had no idea.  I’m fairly certain I met Alan though, but then again I can’t remember because I was pretty drunk and they’re always changing members (there’s a picture of us.. somewhere…).  I used JFAC as an example because they go through a lot of people but the music stays pristine and gets better and better over time.  TBDM, even though they’re my favorite band by a longshot, seems to hit some weird plateau with me.

God dammit time to go listen to all their albums again.  It’s gonna be a TBDM marathon.

Summer Slaughter 2012 Tour Dates
I could have sworn Fallujah was on this tour but maybe not. I still stand by what I said a while back regarding Periphery because they’re definitely the odd band out this year. Not that it’s a bad thing, because it’ll be refreshing to have them play in the middle of everyone else.
Now when you see these dates I wouldn’t get too angry if they aren’t coming to your city based on this list. There’s a few areas where it seems like there’s a lot of time/distance between shows, such as June 31 in Fort Lauderdale then not playing until August 8 in NYC. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is another date (hell, maybe 3-5) added within that timerange. Hopefully we’ll see some more dates added (finalized?) in the near future.
UPDATE: Blah blah blah, the official and finalized dates were released a little bit ago.

samclennan:

Black Dahlia Murder sealed the deal with Max Lavelle and made him the band’s full time bassist. The band made the announcement Fridat night during its set @moshfest. Lavelle hails from the Masshole ranks having played in Burn in Silence and Goratory.  He also did a stint with Despised Icon. Good pick, BDM

Soooooo I’m not too sure how I feel about this.  Apparently Max has been playing with TBDM for months and on Friday evening the band announced, as seen in the above video, that he will be part of the band full time.  I had no clue that Bart was even considering leaving the band, let alone it happening and then getting a new bassist already.  My concern is how the next album will sound, as Ryan Knight’s influence on Deflorate left something to be desired, and the riffing on Ritual does not even compare to their earlier stuff.  Don’t get me wrong, the music is still amazing.  I just wish I knew who wrote what parts because it irks me that they have these lineup changes every so often  but I can’t figure out if it’s for better or for worse.  The one comforting factor is that Max plays a ZON bass, which is the same company Bart used.

If you compared them with Job For A Cowboy they’re in great shape. JFAC has had so fucking many lineup changes while being a band for half as long, but the thing is JFAC sounds better and better each time.  Each album trumps the previous and even with a constantly changing lineup they’re able to pull together great musicians to go with Jonny Davy’s distinct voice.

Cannabis Corpse - Gateways to Inhalation

From their 2011 album Beneath Grow Lights (Amazon MP3 link)

I bet you guys thought today would pass without me posting something by Cannabis Corpse. Well you were wrong. They’re actually playing near me on Sunday with Revocation but I won’t be able to make it, and that makes me sad.

Blaze on.

Badass death metal

Haha badass death metal doesn’t need to be a subgenre; any metal fans can differentiate badass death metal from sucky death metal! It can reflect any subgenre of death metal. But I know what you mean.

Job For A Cowboy has definitely evolved, but they still hold some of the same elements going as far back as Doom. Obviously Davy’s distinguished vocals are key when listening. And since Ruination, you can apply Jon Rice’s fast and extremely technical drumming style into the mix. Now with this guitarist’s high riffs, I really think they found their sound, but even though they do sound a lot different than before they still sound like Job For A Cowboy. I’m just glad they have changed and are starting to be more recognized as a death metal band rather than a deathcore/shitty/pig squeal band.

All I can say is I’m glad JFAC still sounds like JFAC even though their lineup changes are more frequent than me changing my underwear.  I suppose those changes are for the better, though, because each album stomps the previous.

So has Deathcore evolved, or are we a Death Metal band?
-Jonny Davy
So Jonny, singer for Job For A Cowboy, proposes an interesting question. If you weren’t aware, JFAC started out strictly as a deathcore band. I remember hearing them in 2007 when they were on tour with Megadeth and thinking “lol fuck this band” but then realized I actually liked it. With the release of their latest album Demonocracy (buy it on Amazon MP3) one might say that it isn’t your typical “deathcore” anymore.  I definitely thought it was more along the lines of an evolved death metal thing.  Not brutal death metal, or technical the way it’s normally used.  Just really badass.  Badass metal should be a new subgenre.
What say ye?

Allegaeon on Metal Blade

Back in January Allegaeon set out to begin recording their new album titled Formshifter and today they released a track from that album. It sounds pretty awesome, just like you would expect from Allegaeon. Formshifter will be released on May 8th.
